cmud pro 3.03 mapper problems

I've been having many problems with CMud lately and they're accumulating.

Now, my mapper won't center itself when I walk. I tried choosing my name at the bottom left corner and using #track, didn't help.
CMud crashed and I restarted, now when I try to use #walk, it sends the shortcodes directly to the mud.

What?

Also, my version of CMud, which was doing this before I upgraded to the beta.

when I first launch CMud, I'll get a small window (about 1/8th my screen size) and the character list will show up. I choose which player I want to log in as. It loads the mapper full screen, and in that 1/8th screen it loads with status window and my character. I have to drag that window over to where I'll get the 4 arrows to choose where I want to dock it.

I've tried saving layout, I've tried Shift-Click on my character, no avail.

Can anyone help me please?

Hrm.. however if I move around on the map, and right click somewhere, it'll suddenly move the placemarker to the room I moved to...

I restarted CMud. The mapper is following me now, but it doesn't center movement. I don't have to right-click to get it to update.

However, I still can't use #walk, it sends the shortcode to the mud.

If I double-click on the map, it does however walk me just fine, room by room.

If it doesn't send the directions to the MUD properly, that means the "English Directions" package is not being loaded. Click the Edit Session action for your character and go to the Files/Packages tab and make sure English Directions is being loaded. After loading your session, you can do a View/Directions and select All from the dropdown list in the upper-left to verify that the directions have been loaded.

Finally, in the future, please always mention what version of Windows you are using. If CMUD isn't installed properly on Vista, you can have all sorts of problems with files not getting saved, which could explain your layout problems. You also might want to install 3.03 to a fresh directory in case you have some corrupted files from any old beta versions causing problems.

Sorry, this is Vista.

Thank you, that fixed the directions problem.

Zugg, any possibility this is related to my map centering problem?

I don't think so. Sounds like this problem was with the English Directions package not being loaded. That shouldn't have anything to do with the map centering issue. I think the map centering issue is more related to the map not tracking the proper Location object, or somehow the auto-center option for the location object is getting reset.

Zugg, this problem is back again. I restarted my computer and everything messed up.

Map didn't load, tracker didn't load, and even after I checked that english directions ARE loaded, it still sends the short code to the mud...

The weird thing I've noticed, is even if I double-click on my mapper to run me somewhere, it will highlight the entire path, but only run 3 rooms at a time.

What do your Mapper options look like? There've been problems (not just me, yay) with mapper options resetting, which can mess up your speedwalking.

In the mapper, Config > Configuration Settings. For example, maybe try slow or fast walk instead of safe walk, make sure your prompt pattern is correct, etc.

Aahhh hrm.. I did change it from 0 to 3, but I'm never in safe mode. I 'm in fast walk.

I changed it back from 3 to 0, and now I'm getting the clump of directions again.

Something's definitely wrong there.

Sounds like the map viewer window has gotten detached from your MUD sessions window (which is where the English Directions are available). I'm assuming you can still type a short speedwalk path in your main MUD window, such as:

.n

and it works properly? If so, try typing the #LOC command to see all of your mapper location objects, and make sure the proper location is set. Then use the command

#TRACK locationname

to ensure the mapper is tracking the correct location object. That *should* restore the connection between the mapper window and the MUD window.

Yes, .n works
#loc shows my current location
and no, #track locationname didnt' fix it

I've tried these before, I also tried in the order you put in this thread, and it's still not working.

If you look in your Package Editor, do you just have a single "Map of ..." map object? And is it just #WALK that is broken? Can you double-click rooms to speedwalk?

You might try creating a new location object. Find out what room number you are in on the map by clicking on the room and hovering the mouse over it to get the mouse-over tooltip. It should show the room name along with the #xxx room number. Then create a new location object:

#LOC NewLoc xxx red

where xxx is the room number that you are in. Then type:

#TRACK NewLoc

and then start moving and see if a red marker starts moving on the map with you. Then see if speedwalking works with the new location.

Try creating a new session. Load the new session Offline, then click the Map button to open the mapper. Use the File/Open menu in the mapper to open your existing map file for your other session. Does it work then?

Also, you didn't tell me if this was still just a problem with #WALK or also with double-click speedwalking.

Oops sorry. When I try double clicking, sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. Haven't really figured out why.. I think it's the NW/NE/SW/SE dirs that don't work. I get a What from the mud cause it sends jklh commands instead of NW NE

#walk just doesn't work period. I get 2 normal dirs, then a clump of dirs

I'll try that new map session in a minute, unfortunately at this time I'm a bit occupied.

Thanks for your help Zugg. I appreciate it.

Well, it's getting considerably worse!

I tried creating a new session, and every 30 seconds I get a cmud error, I've been sending you the reports but they won't stop.

The mapper works MOSTLY now, but it's still sending jklh commands as NW/NE/SW/SE, but it's sending them to the mud as j h l k .. not NW NE..etc

Cmud is virtually unusable on my computer now.

Don't just send the error reports...they just get sent into a database that is completely disconnected from this forum. So post the error that you are getting here.

If you type

.j

on your command line, what does it send to the MUD?

I'm not sure what the error was. I shut down and restarted CMud several times, and the errors decided to stop. Sorry, thought the error reports were more helpful. I did however note in the error report something about the forums.

The error dumps are helpful in a general sense, but they get sent to a database and it's hard to connect them back to a specific forum post.

Not sure why the errors magically stopped...that's really weird. But I assume the #WALK problem is still occuring?

If you can reproduce the #WALK problem with a new session, then send me your *.dbm map file and your *.pkg session file to sales@zuggsoft.com and I'll see if it also fails for me here.

Got it. I won't be able to take a look at it until next week though.
