Problem running Zmud under WINE |
Okay I've installed wine and zMUD as suggested in one of the posts on the forum. I've installed DCOM98, MDAC_TYP and Jet40sp8_9xNT before hand but I'm getting the following output after running

Hello,
You can read about the problem at http://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=12948
I have also tried to get it run as well without any success. Basically the copy protection of zMUD block execution of the application. You'll have to either beg some Wine developer to fix it, or use another MUD client on Linux. Personally I usually just use a console window which I set to black background color, and green foreground and then play from there.
If you must run zMUD on Linux though, you could try install Windows XP to a virtual machine like qemu or VirtualBox and play from that. It might be a bit slow though.
There are also MUD clients available for Linux that should be pretty decent. You might also want to look at Java clients which should run on both Windows and Linux. |

Actually with the proper options passed to WINE zMUD runs just fine. However I don't know what they are because Crossover chooses them for you automatically. And since I run it under Crossover... ;)
The other option is to use gMUDix (Has SOME of the good features of zMUD, but implemented in a different way) which you can download from my site: http://www.dubrin.net/downloads.html |

I know that Zmud can run quite happily on WINE, and I'm too determined to give up on anything. If anybody can offer any more information about this problem that would be great! I'm not giving up on this, it must work for me.

Ok, next time I get into my linux box I'll fire up Crossover and see if I can snag what flags its passing to WINE for zMUD.
