Customizing Directions on a Laptop |
I have tried to macro the arrows in my laptop so as to use them as directions, though cmud overrides it so that the arrows are used to shuffle through the command history on the command line. Is there a way through cmud that allows one to use the arrow keys as directions(and have page up and page down be the cursor for the command line)? I know there are softwares that allow you to change the arrow function through windows, but that is not what i want. If this cannot be done, is there a way so that when i type the "a" key by itself, the command to move west will automatically be sent to the mud, but otherwise, i.e, if there are other letters besides "a" in the command line, the direction is not executed?I know cmud wont allow me to use the "a" key as a macro. If i change the preference and put a check on allow alphabetic keys to be macros, naturally even when i am just typing a message, it will execute a direction when i type that letter. Ihate having to type "n" and then press the enter key simply to move north, or having to press the ctrl, shift, or alt button everytime i want to move. Ctrl is right next the a,sw,d but i dont know what kind of damage it could do to the key, since i would end up having it pressed down continuosly, and it is a bit awkward.
I am used to playing games where a,s,d,w are used as directions. Im almost sure that this cant be done, i assume there would be some mix up by cmud as to what "a" is meant to do, but it doesnt hurt to ask. Not being able to walk with without having to press a key and then enter, or having to use some weird key combination to move, seriously hinders gaming experience, and i hope that zugg offers some solution to all of us that play on laptops and want the freedom to customize our directions the way we see fit.
My last resort is changing through windows the function of the arrow key, which is still a bit annoying, as i would have to do this everytime i execute cmud, and i woudlnt be able to scroll through the command line with the click of a key. I dont want to consider buying an external keypad, since its expensive where i live, and for the principle of it. |

You could try mapping, say, CTRL+arrows or CTRL+WASD though. Shift works well too. That way when you want to move, you hold ctrl with your little finger and press the keys; otherwise, you type normally.

I actually found an answer to the original poster's question.
You need to assign macros using the command line syntax like this:
#KEY UP {whatever}
and then go into your Preferences and turn on the "Allow alphabetic keys to be macros". This will also allow you to assign macros to the a,s,d,w keys, although that will prevent them from working normally on the command line. |
