I know you can do this but I haven't been able to figure it out

using #colour on a trigger seems to ignore the #sa and colour the text that triggered the trigger instead of the #sa for some reason, despite in the helpfile of #sa it being shown used that way

You can also do this these days:

#ECHO This is a <color #01AB89>test</color>

which is a bit more HTML standard. Also, don't forget about the Color Picker (Ctrl-I) in the Tools menu to help determining the color since it will use HTML color names instead of the cryptic #rrggbb syntax.
