recovering lost settings file |
when I had a computer crash and zmud was running in the background, I've lost my settings for a .mud file, so, I would like to see if there is any way of recovering it?
on CHLDSK check, System found a corrupt file in zmud/*/*.mud |

In short, no. This is one of the major drawbacks of the way zMUD stores your settings, and one of the most important improvements that CMUD makes. The .mud file is essentially a dump of your computer's memory, which makes it very easy to screw up like this. The new .pkg files in CMUD are proper database files, and don't have this problem.
In long, I remember there being a tool to attempt fix broken .mud files, but I can't remember where it is or what you need to do. Try searching. |

Found this for you:
The zMUD FAQ wrote: |
1. First, find the *.MUD file for your character. It is usually in the folder for the MUD you are playing.
2. Rename this MUD file to something else.
3. Run zMUD again and connect to your character Offline. This allows zMUD to create a new, blank MUD file for your character.
4. Select the Import/Settings command from the Settings menu, and when prompted for a filename, select your old MUD file that you renamed. You should be able to import your aliases, triggers, etc, from your old file.
5. When you have recovered your settings, don't forget to save them with the Settings/Save menu command. |

IIRC, though, this isn't foolproof. |

nope, I haven't even tried it, the *.mud is 2kb in size, it was 400+
I wonder if system recovery could work on this one. |

System recovery doesn't modify datafiles.
