is there any way to colour rooms dynamically in specific directions from the room you are in?

I mean like when I type scan it tells me there is a npc 2 rooms east 3 rooms west etc, I would like to make a trigger that colours the room that the npc is in, or adds a blip (i don't think adding blips is possible but that's maybe a cool idea that could be added to the mapper not sure where to submit ideas though)

There is a way, but it could get a little complicated. I'd recommend you have a look at the various %room... functions, especially %roomcol. You can use them to see where an exit goes, follow it a time or two to grab the vNum of the room in question, and then change the color with %roomcol.
