Trouble with Aliases |
Pardon my ignorance, but I've been having a good bit of trouble with my aliases lately, and I was hoping someone could show me what I'm doing wrong. Creating them isn't a problem - it's keeping them. Often, when I edit existing aliases or create new ones and save the changes, after shutting down zMUD, then restarting it some time later, all of the changes have been undone and my settings have reverted to where they were prior to making the edits. Recently I've experienced an even bigger problem - even the aliases that I had successfully created and saved have started disappearing - dozens and dozens of them, leaving behind empty folders and a lot of lost work. I've tried looking into this but haven't managed to find any discussion of a similar problem, so I was wondering if anyone had experienced this before and can show me what I'm doing wrong. Thanks in advance for your help.

This does sound odd.
First question. Are you using Vista by any chance?
If so look at the stickies at the top of this forum concerning Vista.
If not I don't know. Check file permissions and HDD space. |

I would suggest checking into the steps for Fixing a Corrupted Settings file here.

In response, I'm not using Vista, I don't have issues with file permissions or HDD space, and going through the steps for fixing a corrupted settings file didn't do anything. I don't mind re-creating the aliases I've lost (well, maybe a little), but I'm just afraid I'll go through all that work again and just lose it again. So I was hoping to spot the problem and fix it before taking that step, but if that's not possible I'll just cross my fingers and give it another shot. Thanks.

If I was you I would write all my aliases in a txt file, then copy and paste to Zmud, that way you got it all backed up incase happens again.
Good luck fixing it. |
