cMUD with Zmapper |
Does zmapper work with CMUD?
After I installed zmapper, when loading CMUD I get a system error(access violation 0x776A9AB2(tried to write to 0x00030FB4) program terminated, when I hit OK, Vista displays a error message saying zmapper has stopped working. CMUD continues to load though. |

Sounds like an error in zMapper rather than in CMUD; the two should work together insofar as the mapper in CMUD works, which is to say just about.
Try running zMapper on its own and see if you have this problem. It's likely some file permissions error, since zMapper wasn't designed for Vista. Vista loves those. |

Zmapper on its own worked just fine. Seem to only be a problem when first loading zmud.

It's one of those Vista issues. You will need to right-click on CMUD and select "Run as Admin" for this to work I think. CMUD is trying to load zMapper and zMapper isn't really supported on Vista. Microsoft made a bunch of "security" changes in Vista, and several of them effect how system registry keys are written when not running "as Admin". CMUD has the Vista support for this, but zMapper doesn't and won't until it is rewritten as "cMapper" later this year.
It also helps if CMUD and zMapper are *not* installed into your Program Files directory. Make sure zMapper is installed into it's own directory (like C:\zMapper) so that zMapper can update it's own INI file. If you install zMapper into Program Files, then Vista is going to start making "compatibility files" in the virtual mirror store that could cause all sorts of problems. |

You know, it's like they make these changes specifically to frustrate software vendors. If malicious software managed to batter its way through UAC and install itself, bypassing these extra security measures is as simple as installing somewhere really obscure, which most malware does anyway. So what was the point?
So annoying |

Probably more to try to get software developers to work directly with them, which I am sure is something they charge to do.
