Automapper issue

Greetings... I want to start out by saying how impressed I am with zMUD. Definately worth the price of purchase many times over!

That being said, I do have an issue with the automapper that I can't seem to solve on my own, or by perusing the forums. In a nutshell, I am having problems (In follow mode) getting the map to follow my MUD character from room to room consistently. Sometimes it will follow my character into a certain room, and then later on it will not.

Many of the rooms in my MUD not only use cardinal points but also special commands (ie: shop, curtain, etc..) to enter rooms. Normally, but not always this problem arises when I have to enter one of the special commands to get into a room. The map will simply not move into the new room.

I have checked the links between rooms, and they appear fine and room descriptions match.

Any ideas? Or do you need more information?

Thanks in advance for all help...

Essentially, the mapper does not know this move has occurred because it wasn't one of the normal cardinal directions.

I'd start by making the sure the special command you're using is mapped to the corresponding exit for the room your in. If enter cave goes to the room to the north, make sure that command is associated with that exit.

Depending on your scenario, you may find the #MOVE command useful as well.

To give more detail to what Tech was saying about associating commands with exits - rclick on the room and select properties. On the exits tab, select the exit in question. In the "other com" box, you should enter the command you need to type to move in that direction. So you'll have an exit leaving the room to, say, the north with an "other com" of "curtain". Now if you're in that room and press 8 on the numpad to go "north", you'll actually enter the curtain command like you're supposed to, and the mapper should understand the movement.

As you can imagine, it's quite a hassle to edit rooms manually to do this, so zMUD includes a special mapping character to create special exits. Entering:

>curtain>n

at the command line will cause an exit to be created north of the current room with the other com "curtain" and it'll then send "curtain" to the MUD so you move into the new room.

I had been using the >curtain>n commands to create these "special" rooms, and it works great. Also checked the properties of each room to make sure that the Other Com was set to "curtain" (or whatever was needed to move). They were set up correct. Just seems strange that one time the link would work and the next it wouldn't...

I don't know if this solved the problem just yet, but I ticked the option of using the Vnum for each room. Since I've done that, I haven't experience the problem of not moving from room to room. I'm going to play around with it a little more and see what happens...

Thanks for you quick responses and help!
