[2.06] gauge and command line interaction

* Create a gauge
* In preferences, assign the toolbar containing the gauge to BOTTOM
* Run this on a mud, or set some alarm that will change the value recorded on the gauge
* Type something on the command line, but don't hit enter
* Wait for the gauge to change

When the gauge changes, the text on the command line disappears. If you type something, the text reappears. If, while the text is invisible, you use the right or left arrow keys, the cursor does move on the command line, but you can't tell--the text does not come back until you type an ascii char.

I think this bug may have existed prior to 2.x, but I only started playing with gauges recently.

Gauges work fine for me, I have them placed to the bottom of main window and since my first CMUD 2.03 till current 2.06 I haven't had any problems with text disappearing in the command line.

I can't reproduce this either. And I also have 2 gauges at the bottom of my window just above the command line. So I'm not sure what is going on. It's possible that the layout is messed up for your session. You might want to try holding down the SHIFT key when you click on the "Open Offline" action in the session window, and then redock your windows and then #SAVE the new layout.

Confirmed. I think you may have uncovered enough to sort out the disappearing command line.

This is a little tough to create since the text doesn't always disappear on the alarm (at least not if you update the value). But, if you have text on the command line and update the Tool Tip or caption text for the gauge, you'll see the command line disappear. This explains my seemingly intermittent command line disappearing problem I have been seeing for some time. since I have a script that updates the and redefines the entire gauge when my health is updated.

An interesting side effect of this is clicking in the white space area of the command line doesn't bring it back, you actually have click some part of the tool bar.

I was able to recreate this in a blank session so it's definitely not a layout issue.

Tech, could you give the step-by-step for doing this in a blank session?

It's the same as Rahab's... but after you have text on the command line you open the package editor and change the tool tip or caption for the gauge and save the gauge.

BTW I'm about to post some other items related to gauges (it was a productive flight back home.)

I'm afraid that I did not actually test this with an alarm, but I have seen it with gauge updates like Tech describes. Also, I'm running 2.06 live on a mud, and my gauges are updating frequently. The command line is going invisible all the time for me.

It doesn't seem to happen when the gauges at at TOP.

Do you change gauge text and/or color? Or the only thing that changes is the gauge Value?

Yes, I do change the gauge color. I thought I had tested it without the color changes, but I can't seem to reproduce it now. So perhaps it is related to changing the color or other gauge settings as Tech described.
