failed #ftp and error box

when the following command is entered from a script, and the ftp site is down, it throws up an error box... this is in an automatic 24/7 script. When the ftp goes down for extended periods while im asleep... there is a PILE of the error boxes on returning to the mud.

My question, is there any way to handle/test for the ftp site being up 1st, or silently ignore the errors?

Code:

#FTP open www.somesite.com username password
[/code]
