Many (most) universities block connections on port 23 - or, indeed, any port below 1024. That's why ping and lookup won't work either. Change the port to something above that (I'm sure Achaea has a port above that available to connect on; ask).
If that doesn't work, it's most likely because your university intranet blocks all non-http traffic. I know of many that do this (and some that even do it from PCs in halls!). If this is the case, you can either try to convince them that they should open whichever port achaea uses above 1000, use SSH to tunnel your connection over HTTP (there's plenty of information on how to do this if you google) or give up.
Whatever the answer, your best bet is to contact your sysadmin and find out whether they allow it. Their fair-use policy normally discourages things like this, so you should check you won't be punished. |
