Big mud list fails to update.. um.... ever

Why is it that the 7.21 zmud refuses to upload new mud lists? It just never works.

Check your network proxy settings in your Internet Options control panel. zMUD uses the proxy settings that are used for Internet Explorer to make it's connection with the Mud Connector.

zMUD *does* use an older site name for the MUD Connector that they have forwarded to their newer server, so it's possible that it might be causing a problem. You can try running the trial for CMUD, which uses their newer server directly, and see if it works there.

You're not actually getting your updates with your web browser, you're just configuring your computer's general proxy settings. Internet Explorer is an easy way to get at them, but you can also just use Internet Options in the control panel. Either way, your proxy needs to be set up, if you have one, and I'm not sure that Firefox edits these generic proxy options.. Once you've done that, you can leave IE and never touch it again :)

Ok,

Well I looked at Internet Options, and don't see anything jumping out at me called proxy. Is there directions somewhere on how to set up a proxy for zmud?

The simple question here is do you actually require proxy settings? Do you set proxy settings inside Firefox in order for you to access web pages? If the answer is yes then ok you will need to set the proxy settings for IE, if it is no then we are barking up the wrong tree.

It may be that the older server name that is in zMUD is no longer resolving, try Zugg's suggestion of using the CMUD trial in order to see if that successfully downloads the list.

I just tried in zMUD and can confirm that it didn't download the list, however the address it said it was using does resolve
Code:
C:\Documents and Settings\Taz>nslookup www.mudconnector.com
Server:  resolver-nx2.svr.pol.co.uk
Address:  195.92.195.91

Non-authoritative answer:
Name:    mudconnector.com
Address:  204.209.44.14
Aliases:  www.mudconnector.com

C:\Documents and Settings\Taz>

I just tried in the CMUD version I have which is 1.33 and it successfully downloaded.

I'm not a computer tech,

I just want it to work, why do I have to jump through rings by downloading something else, to try to get this to work? I don't want Cmud, I want Zmud, and want it to work.

I also can't download the MUD list with zMUD. Looks like zMUD's URL needs updating.

As an aside, I'm not sure what you expected when you asked for help, Vladaar. Since there are a number of things that can cause this error, it's not unreasonable to ask you to help us narrow it down by trying different things and giving us more information on your specific problem. It's like someone giving a bug report that just says "zMUD crashed" without explaining how or why it crashed. Without more information, it's very difficult to give you the help you need.

I have contacted the MUD Connector to see what might have changed on their end. I'll let you know what I hear. Unfortunately, it's not my server so it's not something I have direct control over. It's possible that they added some new filter to their server that is interfering with the zMUD downloads.

The MUD Connector found and fixed a problem on their end, so this should be working in zMUD again. Thanks for reporting it.
