The map being open is a layout issue. If the map is open with you exit CMUD, and you exit it normally, it should save it in position.

You can also use the menu command like in ZMud, think that got fixed for 2.x.

Once you've got the layout set up how you want, use the #save command to force it to be saved to disk. Normally this happens when you close CMUD, but this should make sure.

#MENU {Tools|Automapper}
#MENU {Window|Map for (session name goes here)}

I don't know if the second one actually works, but I just tested the first one. It was broken in 1.34 and earlier versions. Not sure if you can raise a keypress as opposed to actually pressing the keys, but if you can then you can just use the CTRL-M macro directly instead.

ok I apaprently had autosave turned off. that is now on.

I set up the layout how I wanted then typed #save

when I closed the program and opened again and open the character, it still was like how it was before, how I *don't* want it - and does not open the mapper automatically

no idea why :( it said in blue the settings saved message too!

It's possible that CMUD isn't saving the changes at all, or that it's saving corrupt or incomplete data that it's then ignoring when it's trying to reload the file.

Check the modified date on the .xly file, then force CMUD to save it again and see if the date's changing. That should tell you if CMUD's updating the file at all (you can see its location if you rclick on the session icon when CMUD starts, click Edit Session and it's on the Package Files tab).

Also, which version of windows are you running, and which choice did you make during installation when you were asked where you wanted CMUD to keep its data files (the options are My Documents, Install Directory and Custom).

Oh, and finally - try creating a window, moving it somewhere, and saving the layout. See if the layout of the window is saved, and whether or not it's saved independently of the flyout windows and mapper.

it definitely modifies the xly file the modified date changed when I did save

windows xp pro sp2

in the same folder as cmud

and no, when I make a new window and do save it doesnt seem to have any effect, the window is there when i reopen cmud but is just moved to another tab

oddly the mapper is autoopening now which is good, but it is opening in the wrong place, still docked and the right sidebar things come back every time still too

Have you tried the SHIFT trick to rule out corruption issues? Holding down SHIFT will cause CMud to ignore your layout altogether, at which point you go about setting the windows like you want them. Then you just use #SAVE, close the session/CMud, or just leave it open long enough for the autosave to kick in (#SAVE on an internal timer).

This is working perfectly fine for me using the latest beta, so I wonder if you've maybe misunderstood what I was saying earlier? The SHIFT trick only works at the moment of opening up the session. If the session is already opened and you're able to bring up the package editor, the mapper, and any child windows, holding down SHIFT doesn't do anything. Consider the SHIFT trick to be CMud's version of Windows Safe Mode, so technically it should always be doing something visible (unless of course you don't have the mapper open, don't have child windows, and have all three slideout panels visible on the right).

Beyond that, try manually deleting the session layout file (though you shouldn't have to do this because of the SHIFT trick, it does rule out any weird issues with the SHIFT trick itself) as well as the .tbr files (deleting the .tbr files is completely harmless, as CMud will simply autorecreate them if it can't find them on disk). When these files reappear, you can rest assured they have clean data in them and that some other bug messing with your layout is at play.

If this still doesn't fix the situation, create a completely new session, edit out all the user-created packages, and start messing with the layout. If no problems exist in that session, your problem exists somewhere within one of your packages.
