[1.28] Unable to Close Session without error. |
I am unable to close any session with an error. I will attempt a new install to see if that helps.
[Edit]A complete reinstall took care of that problem. |

I am consistently getting a crash on closing a session. Not any session but most. Invalid pointer operation is the error I keep getting.
This happens if I use close all as well.
I will try reinstalling. |

That was the error I was getting. Doing a clean install then copying back my packages did the trick.

The reinstall did not help.

I did make a change that might cause this. The older versions were not actually removing settings properly on Close. Since the new version removes settings, there might be some side effect with your particular settings that cause an error. Send me the *.PKG file that you are closing that is causing the error (email pkg file as an attachment to [email protected]) and I'll see if I can figure it out. Also make sure you send in the crash dump report.

I'm at work and don't have them with me. So expect them around 5 or 6 pm Central time.
I have already sent a crash dump last night. |

Blah...they got buried somewhere in our help tracking system. Do you have the Request # from when you sent the files so I can find them? Or, just send them to [email protected].

I have consistently gotten a crash on exit of cmud since I've been using Cmud. I've reported it a couple times through the bug report system. I'm using 1.26 and vista currently, however as I mentioned it's been happening for me even a couple months ago when cmud running on a different machine and xp. I can send my .pkg file also (I'd love to send it to help get rid of the crash). I'll do so later this evening.

Jed try backing up your packages, do a clean install and restoring you packages. That helped some of them for me. But I still get quite a few though. Mostly around closing the default session, and when I close my normal session without actually doing anything after opening it up off-line.

Together they are indeed bigger than 5meg. I sent them to sales.
RE: Cmud Crashes on session exit Package from Arminas [1.28] {20822}
Should I send them one at a time? |

Thanks Arminas, I got your packages.
Also, everyone should keep in mind that errors when closing a session are always going to be the toughest to fix. The way Windows works, *any* error that happens during your session that might mess up memory can cause a crash when you close the session. When you close a session, CMUD tries to free up all of the memory that was being used by the session, and if any memory pointers are messed up (from any past access violations), then Windows will give another error when that memory is freed up at the end.
So, if you ever use the "Continue Application" option after another error message, this will likely cause additional errors when you exit CMUD or close the session. There is no reason to report these additional errors, since they are side effects of the first error.
Keep this in mind when posting to this thread. This thread is *only* for crashes when closing a session when no other error was encountered during the session.
For example: jed. Just because you got errors when exiting several months ago, doesn't mean this is related at all to the current problem. There were *lots* of other bugs several months ago and as I've mentioned, almost any bug will also cause problems when you exit. So this isn't just one bug that we are talking about here. Almost every bug will also cause a problem on exit. |

OK, I think I found the problem causing this particular error when using the File/Close Session command. I had fixed a bug that was preventing some of the settings in memory from being removed. Now that these settings were being removed properly, it turns out that one of the database indexes wasn't being refreshed and still had pointers to these removed settings, which then caused a crashed.
However, Arminas: your packages have some pretty serious problems. You have several Modules stored within a Window object. All Modules must be at the top/root level and *not* contained within another Window or Module object. Not sure how these got created there, or if you accidentally dragged/dropped them there. I obviously need to do something to make this impossible to do.
Having Modules within Windows, or Windows within Modules is the biggest cause of most package corruptions and problems. I'll see if I can add something that will "fix" packages that are loaded with this kind of problem in them. |

I'm glad you were able to track this down Zugg. Now I'm not sure if you noticed, but of my error dumps showed the occurred during a FreeMem call. I'm sure you've got it covered, but I wanted to mention it in case they were two separate issues.

Very sweet that you found the problem.
I'll look at taking the modules out of the windows. |

Hah, I see them. Yes I made those some time ago I think at the time you had the option of converting a class to a module. If I am wrong about that... And with my memory that is definitely a possibility. Then I just dragged them down there. Either way it will not let me take them out short of deleting them. Which I am certainly willing to do.
I'm not seeing any of those in the Gaborn package though. |

Yeah, it was in the Ramoth package. And yes, there doesn't seem to be any way to drag them to the root. But don't worry, I've fixed the next version so that it will always fix any nested modules or windows and put them back at the root level. And I've turned off the drag/drop for modules/windows within the tree (you can still drag them to a different package tab though).
