CMUD IRC channel

Since someone asked about it, I've created an IRC channel for CMUD.

If you've already got an IRC client, just click here.

For those without an IRC Client, just download mIRC or use the ChatZilla addon for FireFox. Once it's installed, the link above will work. There are also many other clients for many platforms if you'd rather not use mIRC, but I can't vouch for them supporting irc:// links.

If the above link doesn't work for you, here are the details:

Server: irc.asylum-games.co.uk
Port: 6667
Channel: #cmud
Password: none

So you really haven't got any excuse for not coming on and idling, have you?

Hi there,

I'm the network admin of irc.asylum-games.co.uk. I'm not going to start touting the network but am happy to see one of our users doing something like this, especially for something like CMUD, it reminds me of my youth Embarassed

If you're new to IRC or mIRC as a program, I'll be happy to run you through setting it up, just send me a PM and I'll try and help Smile

Oops, almost forgot, my nick on IRC is Jim or Duracell.

Also, a few basic commands you can type anywhere in the chat box at the bottom of each window,

/join #channelname (To join any channel that is open to the public)
/part (to leave a channel, or you can just close the channel window)
/me <action> (to perform an emote, ie: *Me falls asleep*

I was in there for about 5 hours, and sadly the only other person logged was Ex. Could have even been a bot for all I know.

Come on people! :P

Let's just make a channel in Efnet, heh.

Works fine with IceChat although for some reason mine joins the channel twice.

Don't know about most folks but I haven't done anything with IRC for a long time (at least over a decade.) Every so often I think about doing it just to track down hard to find info, but I think it's useful to remember that many Z/CMUD users have limited tech experience and may either be daunted by IRC or just prefer the forums.

Also for it to be effective you need lots of folks constantly signed in to it. It's a great idea, but I think there's limit to how much of a CMUD-IRC base exists.

Latter this year when I get a chance to work on the chat features in CMUD, I think you'll see more activity in this area. Probably won't be IRC, but should be something even better, but that's all I'll say for now.

Does anyone try to visit this room anymore? I would like to get it going again or going for the first time. I work from 7 - 3:30 pm Central time and I should be online around 5 and I will connect to the room then, so come on people lets get to chatting.

I'll be hanging around a bit, just to see what's new, if anything. :)

To help drum up interest... for a very easy way to join, consider getting the ChatZilla Addon for Firefox (http://chatzilla.hacksrus.com/). Minimal setup required, and you can use Fang's direct 'click here' link above to connect and join. Obviously, this implies you need to be using firefox :)

Seems not; my IRC client is knackered and I haven't had time to fix it. There never was a great deal of demand for this anyway - I think I'll unsticky it so that it doesn't clutter up the sticky section. If anyone really wants to see it stay, post.

CMUD's going to get its own chat eventually, though, so once that's done we can just use that :)
