[3.03a] Map is not auto-loading without an explicit 'Save Session Layout'.

Problem:
I can create a new session and load the map. In the settings editor it is set to auto-load and the layout is set to auto-save. Never-the-less I can close the session and re-open it and the map will not be loaded. If I explicitly so a "Save Session Layout" then it will auto-load.

Instructions to Reproduce:
Code:

1) Open Cmud and select "New Session".  Give the new session a title of 'test'.
2) Open the session 'test' off-line.
3) Open the map by left clicking the map button at the top of the screen.  Verify that the map appears to the right of the current window.
4) Confirm in the "Settings Editor" that the map is set to auto-load on session start.
5) Confirm that under the layout menu it is set to "Auto-save Layout".
6) File->Close All
7) Open the 'test2' session off-line.

Verify that the map did not auto-load.

You can repeat this except with an explicit "Save Session Layout" which will cause it to be saved and work properly.

The AutoLoad option only tells CMUD to load the raw database information for your map. It doesn't have anything to do with actually displaying the map window or not. With AutoLoad enabled, CMUD allows any scripts that use the map information to work even if the map window is not displayed.

Displaying the map window or not is controlled by the window layout. If you save a layout with the map window open, then loading that session layout will open the map window again regardless of the setting of the AutoLoad flag for the map database.

Sounds like your window layout is not getting saved properly. I ran your above procedure and wasn't able to reproduce any problem here. Somehow on your system, using the File/CloseAll is not saving your window layout. I have no idea how that would fail since CMUD calls the "Save Session Layout" routine when it closes your session, so it should be the same as saving the layout manually. It's almost like your "AutoSave Layout" option isn't really set even though it shows that in the menu.

Could it be dependent on which window has focus when things are closed down? I've noticed that a "Save Session Layout" won't actually work unless the focus is on my main window. Could this be a culprit?

Hmm, that's odd. That might be a sign of some other problem. The "Save Session Layout" shouldn't normally care what window is selected, so if there really is a difference, then it's definitely a problem.

Very strange. I tried it again. I selected the different windows and it made no difference, just like you said it wouldn't. However, it still wouldn't save the layout with the mapper unless I explicitly saved the layout session.

I can't see how this differs for us. All I did was:

1) Create a new session, enter the session off-line
2) Click the map button
3) File->Close all
4) Re-enter the session off-line.

It's the File/CloseAll that seems to be causing the problem, and I've added this to the bug list.

What way were you closing it?

Closing with the red X in the upper-right corner (closing CMUD) works properly and saves the layout. File/CloseAll either isn't saving the layout or isn't restoring the map properly.
