problem with mapping |
hello,
here's the thing. I'm trying to map an area in my mud but each time i try (I'm going to the start of area, then choosing new configuration under conf and typing in the direction etc), its making the room within a completely another map. For example:
I create a new zone, naming it letsay blah, then I'll choose the configuration option and it will do everything fine and the first room is there. But, it isn't going be the first of the rooms in the map I'm doing but its suddenly jumping into a completely different map (letssay blah2 thats already in use as a different/complete map etc).
I have tried countless times and most likely doing something wrong as always, though.
I'm grateful to whatever help anyone can offer me, would really appreciate it. Thanks.

First, understand the mapper. The mapper is like an overly-strict librarian making you check out one book at a time. Each book is a map, and each page in that book is a different zone in that map. The configuration affects the entire map and cannot be restricted to specific zones (not without fancy scripts, at least).
Second, just start moving around and creating rooms. When you reach a point where some room(s) need to be in a different zone, do the following:
1)highlight all the rooms you want to move
2)press Control-Z.
3a)if you want to move them to an existing zone, select that zone from the list that appears
3b)if you want to move them to a new zone, click the Make New Zone button and follow the instructions |

tried it the way you suggested but it doesn't seem to work as it should. doing cpl rooms within some other zone already made, then pasting those rooms over to new zone and continuing there but it still makes rooms with either wrong room names, wrong directions etc ... and i can't seem to get map to realize that by some rooms i need to enter a portal to move to a next one and it loads it just like another room etc.
i really would like to learn how to map, but atm all of it seems to be really beyond me. |

Ok, so you have a configuration problem. Your first attempt at the autoconfigure tool didn't work, so that probably means you need #TAG triggers to help out the mapper.
I don't know what your room info looks like, nor the mud you play, so I can't help you much. |
