Regex vs. Trigger

I was just wondering which runs faster, perl scripting or standard zmud trigger? I'm running obsolete machines and the later zmuds are starting to bog down a bit so anything that makes it a little more cpu cycle friendly would be nice.

Thanks in advance!

Zmud Automagicly converts the pattern in memory to a REGEX pattern (which is faster).
