multiple proxies? |
Is there a way that one could connect to multiple proxy servers using zmud? When you go into character preferences and change the proxy for one character, it changes them for all of them. I was wondering if there was a way to "lock" one proxy per character.
Thanksomucho, first Zmud question ever |

Nope. zMUD assumes that when you define a proxy, it's for your connection to the internet as a whole, not for each character. It's a reasonable assumption in most cases.

Alright, I suppose I expected as much, so now for my second question(s)
First Question:
Is there a way to create a script that would act as a character menu that would connect through different proxies?
like you start the character and it gives you a case statement asking which you want to log on through
Second question:
Sometimes when i am using multiple proxy servers (by manually changing the number)
a couple things happen
1. i am connected to a host from proxy A. I change the proxy info in the character setting to proxy B, and then try to connect. (all while staying on the first connection) What will happen is i will stop recieving text in the first character window (it will still send however). This is uber odd.
2. i will try and connect using a proxy and it will work fine on one host, and then not connect to another
Any help/ideas to what is going on would be appreciated much :) |

Then I would have to ask the need for multiple proxies because the assumption isn't the best case scenerio :P *halo*

The need is so my brother and I can play together on a game from behind our firewall without violating multiplayer rules of one player per IP address. A better way to do this would also serve as a solution to my problem.
thanks for quick respose :) |

In Situtations like that be up front with your muds Admins and let them know that your brother wants to play too. Most muds will let it happen as long as both chars are not connected at the same time from the same IP. If not then possibly time to find another mud :P or wait for someone that knows more about proxies then me.

Another thing, As me and him have been fooling around with it more, i have noticed that things seem to run smoother when i use two different character profiles. (this is just an observation) it could very well mean nothing. I just imagine that there is a conflict somewhere, like at a port or i have no idea. But thats why im here on the forum asking :)

Actually what that sounds like is that your multiplaying with the exscuse of your brother playing with you because truthfully I find it hard to believe your playing musical chairs with your brother while mudding. As I am sure that is the case many people are getting at too and might contribute to the lack of response to this column. I am just evil enough to say such things :P Anyway thats my two cents. Sorry if its harsh.
