Zmud crashes on open

I just upgraded to Win XP SP1 and when I try to load Zmud I get this error message:

Fatal Error: Cannot open databases in directory D:Zmud6.4
Please help me get Zmud working again!

Another note, a second copy of 6.4 which does not have my characters or scripr set in it gave the same error message, but a copy of v6.16 which does works fine.

Did you just install SP1 in Windows XP or did you do a fresh install of Windows XP with SP1 included? If the former is true, did this happen before installing SP1?

I just tried installing a new copy of 6.40,
this one gives the error message of "no such interface supported"

Charbal posted some links in this thread about that error. Try looking in there to see if that solves your problem.

could try completely removing zmud, the folders, files, whatnot, just keep a backup of the files for your characters and whatnot in a separate spot.

I have a few friends who had problems with alot of programs when they upgraded to sp1, but they were using pirated versions. Not implying anything, because mine is legal and I have had small problems with diff programs...usually removing all of it (uninstalling, deleting folders, the works) then installing a fresh copy works wonder.

I've tried deleting everything and reinstalling, tried wiping all races of Zmud out of the registry, read the M$ help stuff, and still getting the error. Any other ideas?

Error Message: 373 No Such Interface Supported

If that is your message, it looks like the problem described here: http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;246589

That link has to do with jscript.dll which is a new feature in zMUD, so it could be causing your problems. Try the resolution there.

That was one of the previously mentioned fixes - but it doesn't help me, as that fix was designed for win 98
