local echo in character mode in 6.40

I recently upgraded to the new public 6.40 version of zMud. I am having a problem though. I cannot get a local echo in character mode. I have it turned on, and I have done away with the command bar at the bottom, but still no local echo...

There are many users on our mud with the same issue after the upgrade. Any help would be appreciated!

The MUD should be able to negotiate local echo with zMUD. Even if it doesn't, you can enable local echo by clicking on Prefs, expanding General, selecting Emulation and checking Local Echo. This works with no problems for me.

Yes, this is precisely what I have done, but, lo and behold, no local echo. Are you also in character mode with no white command bar?

It is not necessary to turn off the command line, but yes I am also in character mode.

Some additional info was requested:

I'm on Win2k Pro, connecting to 131.247.113.1 3003, my login and password are echo'd, but nothing once logged in.

Emulation settings:

Ansi Color (check)
VT102 emulation (check)
MrTerm emulation (unchecked)
Character Mode (check)
Local Echo (check)
Emulate control codes (check)
Telnet options (check)
MXP/HTML (unchecked)
all other telnet options (check)
Default Terminal type (have tried zmud, vt100 and ansi)

Ok, solution found... apparently the default settings won't work. Once I disabled (unchecked) the entire "telnet options" section in Emulation, and restarted the app, it worked.

It sounds like your MUD does not implement the telnet option correctly and confuses IAC WILL and IAC DO. All you need to do is disable Strict Telnet for now and alert your MUD administrators that they are sending incorrect command sequences.
