I've toyed around with using Microsoft's Game Voice hardware and software to set up some things for zMUD. The only difficult part would be getting all the different commands you need added to the GV configuration, but it is possible and it does work.

Sorry for the slow response.
I've tried out voice recognition a little.
Do you know of a package that:
a) works well - reasonable accuracy
b) redistributable- users wouldn't have to buy a copy of Dragon or IBM in order to use a plugin.
c) Doesn't cost an insane amount for a developer license.
The results I'm getting out of the one from MS are pretty horrendous*. Maybe I need a better mic or just need to spend a lot of time training it.
Were you thinking of using it to converse/chat, or to trigger commands as Dorrin has tried?
