zExplorer is a much more general purpose program, so no, it doesn't have a specific "update map" option. However, zExplorer is set up so that as soon as I update the map file on the server, you will get the new map when you use the Update Datafiles option.
Maps for zExplorer are in the zMapper format, so you can also use zMapper to change your map, change the background image, etc. Unlike AC Explorer, zExplorer doesn't hack into the AC client to create the background map. I do that offline and then load the background into the map using zMapper, and then it shows up in zExplorer when you update your files.
If you have AC Explorer, you can use the Update Map function in AC Explorer to generate a new DERETH.BMP file. Then just convert that to GIF format using a graphics editor and overwrite the DERETH.GIF file that is used by zExplorer and you will see the new map in zExplorer.
