Char names/icons getting mixed up. |
I have a problem with two icons for two chars for the same mud.
When I click on 'Char1' it seems to open 'Char2'. Even in offline mode for Char1, I type #char resulting in Char2.
I once deleted Char1 completely and remade it, this worked untill I opened Char2 again which seems to break char1.
If I edit Char1 everything looks normal (Character name is correct).
Is there a way to fix char1 without deleting the icon and making a new one, or prevent this happening all-together?
Regards

Give them different primary .mud files. This is done from the Character database window (the one with an icon for each character). Select one of the characters and Edit it. Go to the Files tab. Change the Primary file. If you click on the folder icon (browse) next to Primary, you can use Copy, Paste, and Rename to make a copy of the existing settings file.
While you have the Edit window open, be sure to go to the Character tab and verify that Char1 is named Char1 and Char2 is named Char2. Since this is where the value of #CHAR comes from, it seems likely that you have somehow used 'Char2' as the name of Char1.

I was writing the below and figured it out, I had saved layout using the Layout-->Save Layout... menu option, this was causing my problem, I de-selected the 'Use Layout' checkbox and the chars all work fine, but now I have to maximise my Zmud window every time, I'll try different layout files and see how I go.
--------------
Thank you for the response, I change my settings constantly and have many that apply across characters so I find inherited setting inconvienant and a different primary file for each character I can't see working either for the same reason.
On the file front, my chars inconsistantly have the file 'RomROM23.MUD' set for the Inherited file. This file does not even exist and I thought I had removed this from all my chars last time I got them all to work...??? *boggle*
I checked the Character names for about the 50th time to thank you. And they appear to be right.
I just went to check it again, by going offline and typing #char. And now they are doing it exactly the other way round. Interestingly the old Char1 that was opening Char2 is working ok now and opening Char1. Char2 now opens Char1 *groan*. I will now have to make a new icon for char 2.
Things I did recently:
Used char2 offline to test some scripting,
Saved the window layout, most likely was for char 1.
Also char 3, 4 & 5 all work fine.
I Also just noticed that chars that have faded out from lack of use fade back in when used 'OFFLINE'? Zugg? |

Sounds like you have a handle on it anyway. Doesn't really matter what the Inherited filename is if you aren't using it anyway.

Just as a note:
The way that I work multiple characters on one mud is to have ONE character for the mud, and they all share the same settings/layout.
I have a #pick command in the autolog for the character name, where I choose which character that I want to use. Then, it turns on the class with the character name, which is where I store all the scripts and settings specific to that character. It works REALLY well for me, giving me the option when I connect of who I want to connect as, and gives me the option of having custom settings for each character,
and I don't ever have to worry about different settings files. |
