Database issue (round 3)

ok, so my database script is working perfectly EXCEPT one part (i know, i said that last time) ...
every now and then the part of the script that checks for the item already in the database, doesn't do it's job, and i get two identical records. this kind of sucks. So can someone help me write an alias that will check for duplicate records, and delete the one with the older date? (i save the date in as part of the rec, in it's own colum, in this format: yyyy.mm.dd)
