command line loses focus on trigger |
Hey folx,
I've just upgraded to winxp pro from 98. zmud has been misbehaving ever since. first i had a problem with aliases/paths sending X number of commands to the mud at once and crashing my pc. found a thread on here saying that some network cards can't handle many small packets being transmitted at once, so i added a sendline delay and it fixed that.
The current bug i'm getting right now, however, i can't figure out and it's driving me crazy. What happens is ANY time a trigger fires(from mud text or command input...etc) my command line loses focus! I end up having to hit <tab> every time a trigger goes off to be able to type in another command. It's very frustrating, since i have many triggers, sound on a tell, disarmed in battle...etc.
has anyone else had the same experience?
another thought that just occurred to me...when i first played with zmud after upgrading to xp, i don't think i was having this problem. i don't remember for sure(why i don't follows shortly), but i'm fairly certain i would have noticed this. at that time i was using 6.16. However, the speedwalk crash i mentioned earlier quickly manifested itself, and one of my steps trying to solve this was to upgrade to 6.32beta. after solving that problem, i started noticing this one. since then i've tried going back to 6.16 and i still get it.
anyone have any insight?
tia,

If you are currently using 6.16 at this point I would be guessing your problem is do to how Windows XP handles always on top windows. Also guessing here, that you have a settings window open continously, flagged as always on top and rolled up. Quite a stretch, but anyhow, every time a trigger fires it changes the state on the refresh button in the settings window. This can cause the character window to lose focus on XP if the settings window is flagged to be on top. Just another Windows is misbehaving type thing.

thanks for the reply, but alas, that's not exactlly my situation. my char window actually still had focus, just not the command line. when it happened, i could hit enter and it would send whatever the last command in my command line was(got me killed a few times, lol).
anyway, i tried once again to reinstall 6.16, this time uninstalling and then cleaning up all the stranded reg entries and files left around, then did a totally clean install. somehow that did the trick. i'm guessing my speedwalk bug had corrupted some file out there and that's what was causing my command line to lose focus. who knows...as long as it's fixed now. :)
thanks again for the reply

Just a word to the wise:

BETA software is inherently buggy. "Upgrading" from the public version to a beta version to resolve problems is NOT recommended.
