Floating Button Palettes?

Hi. I have a general question about buttons. I'm using zmud 6.24 and I was wondering if it's possible to create floating palettes upon which the buttons can be placed? I have another client (for my macintosh actually) called Rapscallion and in that one I can have a separate palette for each "class" of buttons. Actually it automatically makes a button whenever you create an alias, but that isn't really necessary. I do, however, like being able to open, close, and arrange these palettes as needed. It helps to reduce clutter on the screen. Does zmud have the ability to make such floating palettes? Perhaps it is called something else here?

Actually it would be kinda cool if I could get it to make a set of buttons for each class of my aliases. Is there some way to do this automatically? Some sort of drag and drop maneuver perhaps? hehe

Yep there's a way to do this...just create a new window and put buttons in its settings file. Be VERY careful what you do in those buttons (ie, make sure all your code is written correctly), because it seems very easy to mangle the rest of your settings when the errors start appearing.

EDIT: to create a new window, check out the #WINDOW command. To get to that window's settings file, click once on that window and then click the big Settings button above--a settings window with the name of that window should appear. To manage these new windows, you can probably use a macro or an alias.

Thank you for your advice. I followed your instructions to create a new window and it did create one. I'm wondering though, is there a way to drag this to another place on my screen or is it pretty much stuck up there at the top of my other window? I was hoping for floating ones, but I might be able to work with this. Thanks again!

After creating a button in the new window I made using the above method, I hit the button but it didn't execute the command I had designated. Instead it just typed the word up there in the new window. My questions are twofold: 1. How can I get it to execute the commands in my main window rather than up there? 2. Is there a way I can just enter text up there in the other window. I could possibly use the upper window for notes if I can find a way to type up there. Thanks!

In your button, since it doesn't get to see and play with anything not sent to that window, you need to put something like this:

:Main:command

Main -- the name of the window that is your main game window (usually the contents that are passed to the MUD when it asks for a login name)

Command --what you want to do

Now, in 6.16 I tried this method to create a floating clickable direction pad that was smart enough to show only those directions that appeared in the room but it crashed and burned bigtime (something to do with the way I determined which directions were valid, I think, but never bothered to fix it). Be very cautious in these cases if you are unsure how things will turn out.
