Zmud is still crashing with my file :(

Accidently posted this note in Beta Forum, by mistake. so i reposted here.

hi,
i have had problems with zmud since the upgrade to 6.* My .mud file is quite large and it crashes zmud everytime, and i still haven't found out why it happens. I have weeded out older stuff that i don't use, and then even classified everything into classes thinking maybe it was the giant - class stuff that was messing it up.... well to find out the more classes you have the higher chance i had for it to lag and crash. So i went through and removed those classes, and though i still have alot of classes, i have nothing near what i used to have. I had sent my .mud file to Zugg, hoping he could use it to maybe find the problem, and i had hoped when i heard 6.24 was out that this might be fixed (course that is assuming im a coding genius on triggers and it is Zugg (the master programmer) that is in error *rofl... no offense intended zugg im almost certain it is my lack of programming skills that is causing zmud to crash, only problem i have is trying to find exactly where the problem is.. and where it is occuring and then trying to fix it from there.... I would appreciate any help at all.. and if anyone has written a Zmud script editor that has dummy checks of some sort i would love to have it. My file is in 5.55 but i can actually convert it to 6.* and it works for a lil bit before it crashes...

Lately though i can't even use 5.55 for some reason it is now getting kernal errors after i sit idle for a few minutes, and i can't seem to figure out why... i have dissected it and tried to figure out where this problem is occuring and yet again... drawing a blank. Any help would be appreciated it would love to be able to upgrade to the newer zmud however i spent about 5 yrs working on this .mud file and i would hate to just start all over.

This is usually the fault of a saved setting in your mud file somewhere. If you can get the file open temporarily (in either version), export it to ASCII.

Once you've got the ASCII file, make a backup of it, then start deletinging settings and re-adding them slowly - just a few at a time to see if you you can load the new file in a new zMUD window without problems.

If this starts breaking after a certain setting is imported, you can reason that one of the newly imported settings is to blame, and take a closer look at it.

hi,
I think i have isolated the problem... let me explain what i do.

On my mud we have a ton of spells in a spellup, they all have different durations, and as my spells drop i #additem {spell} to a variable and then also, it goes into a button at the top of my screen. Now, recently we have had added another prob 20 spells or so, and as i finally go them setup triggers, that is when i started happening all the time.

Do buttons have a Maximum character space or something like that, so that if i tried to add more keywords to the button and it passed the maximum limits it would cause a Kernal Error??

i had noticed it usually happened when i cancelled my spellup etc... so i added a lil code so when i cancelled the spellup it would not add to the box or variable. Also, when i went afk it would turn that off... Well last night for the first time in weeks i managed to stay online while afk all night :) I am assuming the problem lies within this trigger. Only thing i can think of is, maybe buttons have a max limit and i am exceeding this max limit and then it is causing it to crash... Any ideas??

Something you said triggered something in my mind. Not sure about the quesitons you specifically asked but what error exactly are you getting?

The reason I'm asking is you said "Kernel error" which is infamous with Windows and some higher level programming languages.

hi,
It was some sort of Kernel error, i can't remember exactly but some other error message would pop up then the kernel error would crash zmud, only thing you could do was say ok, and it would shut down, it didn't give any specific number or error just said something about the kernel.

I think i fixed the problem, their must be some limit on variables or maybe buttons that caused it to crash when it got to that maximum length.

I'm Zmud Crash Free for 12 hours now *grin*
