losing connection..

I recently upgraded from Zmud to Cmud, but I'm also on a new computer
so I'm not entirely sure if this is a Cmud problem or not, but here's what's up:

If I'm actively playing I will never lose connection. But when I go afk(sometimes for as little as 3 mins)
and there is no data being received or given to my mud I seem to lose connection..

But it's not like I drop out. And the mud doesn't boot me until I've idled for 30mins.
Cmud does not go red or even realize I'm disconnected.
But I try and enter a command and I get no response, so I have to reconnect.

If I set a tick timer to enter a random command every minute
(sort of like a ping)
then I have no problems... has anyone had a similar problem?

I was wireless but now I'm hardwired and it's still happening.

That's just how telnet clients work. Cmud initiates a socket connection at connection time and renews it with Windows when stuff goes in or out. If there's no traffic for a long enough time period, the Windows garbage collection just assumes the connection is no longer being used and just takes it without telling the app. The app won't discover it's gone until something tries to go out.

browsers, on the other hand, treat socket connections as one-time events and they throw them away once the page is fully loaded. If something needs to go out, a new connection is gotten.

Thank you that was a good explanation. :)
Is there a way to change this? Why did the Windows garbage collection on my other computer not assume the connection is no longer being used?

Your other computer would do the same thing. Every operating system (Windows, Macintosh, Linux, etc.) does this. However, each one has it's own settings which determine when and how often it will garbage collect apparently unused sockets. You probably just never noticed it on your other computer.
