Tab Completion for Aliases Broken or am I not using it right?

So.... it was working. Then, I went on a rampage through settings, customizing and relishing in the beauty of this software product (I've been a fan since waaaaaaay back in the 90s this is like my 3rd copy). Anyway, then and now its not working.
I have checked Options -> General -> User Interface -> Expand Aliases with tab completion and yes, its checked. (Sorry for the poor choice of verbs here.... nothing works, chére).
I'm running CMUD 3.34.... and (yes, this might be the issue) in wine under linux. I just can't afford the bloat in windows on this old klunker laptop.
So... what gives? Any ideas or things I could try? I have tried:

foo [press tab] |
and i just am left with foo, not the expanded alias. |

based on the lack of response here, i have to conclude that Windows users aren't having this issue. Booooo!
I wish there was an easy way to recompile for Linux, but alas, I know that's just not the way it works. |
