data entry

When I cut and paste information from a text file containing data within parentheses (phone number) and try to run it through cmud via command line, I always get a parse error.
Error parsing command:
illegal token: (800) 555-5555
It would be really helpful to my business and my sanity if I had something that could take in data, store it in an array, and do some basic maths, then display the results. Nothing fancy. Don't really want to buy some $1000 data entry software, then have to learn to use it for this one simple task. theres just a lot of it.
As cmud is the only program I have even a rudimentary knowledge of, if there is a way to get around that pesky parsing error I think I can make it work in cmud. Or if there are some free or cheap and easy alternative program(s) availiable, I'm all ears.
Any ideas are appreciated.
P.S. an example of the data to be collected. there could be a few hundred or so on any give day.

Well your problem lies in the parser, which you can toggle via the little computer icon near the command line.

I wonder though, why do you need to send it into the command line at all?
If you are coping the data, CMUD can access that through the internal %clip function, which will return the data from the clipboard, provided it is a string.
From there you can assign it to a variable and the proceed with variable manipulation til you get the desired results.

You don't even need to copy it at all, CMUD can read text files directly - see the #file command.
