"Error importing zone" cmud pro 2.37

So, I have a 'main' who I have been running the mapper on no problem. I decided I wanted to map a zone that high levels can not enter. I made a new character, set up the map with this character, and set about on my merry way mapping to my hearts content. Finish the zone, Click 'File -> Save as' name it, yadda yadda. It gives me a runtime error. I save the character, close it, and reopen it. This time I do 'compact map database' it goes from 8k to 3k. I try saving again, it works, no errors etc. So now I have this nice map of a zone. I log onto my main, click import zone 'Error importing zone'. Yet I can log on that character and run my way through the zone on the map to my hearts content.. I do not understand why I can't just import from one to another easily. Is there a way to 'export' a map properly? Like how we expert settings to XML ? I've tried running the zsconvert from zmud on it. Also, why on 'Import Zone' does it only seem to want '.map' files and not want to work with .mdb files like the zsconvert makes?

Where did you click "import zone"? Cmud does not have any method of importing or exporting a Cmud zone. It can load an entire Zmud or Cmud map, but not a single zone. And you can't merge two maps.

The .map file is a map format used in very old Zmud versions. That version could export zones, but later versions of Zmud moved to a more complicated map format .mdb, which could not export or import zones except for the obsolete .map format. Cmud uses .dbm format for maps, and also cannot export or import zones (except the obsolete .map format).

There is some discussion, including a possible complicated solution, in this recent thread: http://forums.zuggsoft.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=37793.

Actually, in the mapper, the is "Zone" on the menu, with New Zone, Import Zone, etc.

I will look at the thread you posted, and hopefully maybe get it working. Otherwise I'll have to just figure a way to share it amongst sessions easy, i think there is a topic on the front page about it. Hopefully that will allow either session to save the map.

There is absolutely no way to safely export or import zones for maps in the .mdb (zmud or cmud version 2) or .dbm (cmud version 3) formats. Import Zone was written exclusively for .map, and that format was abandoned in the early ZMud version 6 days.

Technically, we could build a script for exporting/importing zones, but nobody knows enough about the .mdb or .dbm formats so they'd first have to puzzle out a ton of stuff not at all documented.

I know there is the option to look at them in spreadsheet view.. i would assume that the formats were something similar. blargh :) Thanks again sir. It is just really annoying not to be able to import/export maps easy. :)

I can tell you that the method described by Palek in mentioned thread works, and a week ago I performed it successfully on WinXP.

There was a problem running the Zone Copy Utillity, because of some missing .dll. You need to google it, download and put into C:\Windows\System32 an that's all.

I'll take a look at it, but I think someone mentioned it not working on win7 in the thread.. unfortunately, I run 7 and 8 depending on the machine I am on. But I might give it a shot after I duplicate it all, to prevent accidents :)

So out of curiosity I googled the problem and after a minute, I can run it on Win7 as well. I will describe necessary steps in http://forums.zuggsoft.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=37793
