Preinstalled packages |
I'd like to clean up my sessions window, and remove the links for all the muds I don't play, which includes all the preinstalled sessions. I tried moving the associated directories, but clearly the process for displaying sessions in the session window is more involved. How can I customize my session window?

Right click the icon and choose delete session.

Doing so will not delete any data that may be useful if at some point in the future I decide to try one of the default MUDS?

Basically, the information for the sessions window is in a completely separate file from the actual folders with the sessions.
1) You do not _need_ any of the built-in sessions in order to play any of those muds.
2) You can delete things from the sessions window without removing the actual files containing the session information.
3) You can rearrange the sessions window all you want without affecting the actual files containing the session information. In particular, you can create a virtual folder in the sessions window, and move all of the unwanted icons into the virtual folder. That's what I usually do myself. |

Thanks for all the info. I rather thought the preinstalled packages might have some settings (like automap stuff) that are compatible with the given package. I'm sure Zugg doesn't have time to MU* much himself, but he might have done some minimal configuration for the big commercial MUDS to get new users up and running quickly. Though, come to think of it, he couldn't possibly update that stuff to reflect changes from the servers over the years, so that would probably be a bad idea. Also, such a feature would likely figure prominently in the product-marketing pages here on the site, which it doesn't.
At first I thought the Session Manager might make session entries automatically from folders in the CMUD documents directory -- some apps do such a thing. If that was the case, deleting the session may have actually deleted the data, but I see that is not the case. And I apologize for not realizing you could make virtual folders with the session manager; I surely could have figured that out a coupla ways, and avoided this thread. |

I've always told the MUDs that purchase the preinstalled session icons that I'd be happy to attach a default settings package if they provided one. But none of the MUDs have ever provided a file. So bug your MUD and ask them to provide a file, or build a default file yourself and submit it to the MUD for approval and ask it to be sent to me. I obviously can't spend time creating configuration files for MUDs that I don't play.

I haven't even bothered to open the included session files to explore them; I certainly don't fault you for not spending time working with MUD designs, rather than your own. I don't think the folks at Discworld would be interested in participating in such a project -- they're very focused on an in-character game experience and preventing automation. CMUD provides plenty of functionality that is consistent with Discworld rules, and is still a great client to use with Discworld, but I doubt they want to push users toward any specific, powerful client.
I have been working hard making my own stuff for Discworld - a functioning automap, which I'm planning to extend with a bunch of nifty features. I'll likely move on to other cool stuff for Discworld next. So eventually I'll share my packages with the Library, allowing registered CMUD users to get them directly. |
