[3.31] Wrong session opening from Session Window BUG

I just started adding some notes to my sessions tonight and noticed this. When you open CMUD and the Sessions window pops up, there is not a notes field at the bottom. Due to the new notes I added, I started to try right clicking the MUD I want followed by selecting connect from the right click menu. That way I didn't have to click once move my mouse over to where the MUD moved to after the notes box appeared and then double click. Here is where the bug comes in to play. If the MUD you wish to connect to has a notes field that will cause all the MUD sessions to be shifted around when you left click on it and, when right clicking if the connect option is displayed over where another MUD session will appear when they get shifted. If you select connect from the right click menu you will actually connect to the MUD that will be under the cursor if the notes field was being displayed rather than your intended MUD.

I am having a hard time understanding this one. I added a note to one of my sessions and played around with it and couldn't get anything like this to happen. Can you break this down into a step-by-step procedure for reproducing the bug?

It might also depend upon exactly what your session window options are for the icon sorting and layout. For example, if you sort the sessions by date, then the most recently connected session icon will be listed first.

I will try to get some screen shots up to help explain soon.

Ok, see if this helps explain the problem any better.

After the sessions shift around from where the notes box pops up the Armageddon session is where the Shadows of Isildur one once was.
Even though I right clicked on the Shadows of Isildur session and clicked connect from the right click menu for that session, CMUD decides since the cursor will be over the Armageddon session once the notes box pops up, and causes the sessions to shift, that it will connect to that session instead of the Shadows of Isildur session I originally clicked on.

It doesn't matter which way you choose to have the icons arranged. If the session you originally right click on will cause the notes box to be displayed and your cursor will be over a different session when all the sessions get shifted, even though they are not shifted when you click on connect from the right click menu you will be connected to the wrong session.

This is on a Vista pc. Maybe I can dig out my old xp laptop later and upgrade to 3.31 to see if I get similar results with that as well (assuming it will fire up).

I just realized the second image doesn't line up with the first one, that was just a minor over sight. Sorry if it causes confusion. Just visualize the second image being lined up like the first image. They are the same thing anyway I just didn't want to cram too many notes onto one image.

*edit*
I did some image editing to combine the first image with the old second so now the second one is lined with the first to avoid confusion.

What are all of the blank session icons? Or is that something you just edited out of the pictures? Also, I'm confused that the Notes field is blank. Which session has a Note?

All of the sessions were edited to clear up the clutter in hopes of making it easy to focus on what exactly was happening. The notes box was edited for security reasons. Both sessions have notes actually, but the Armageddon session is highlighted so that is the one that the notes box is showing for in that image.

OK, I think I have what I need to try and reproduce this. I'll add it to the bug list.

I was looking into this more trying to reproduce it and am still having trouble. When I right-click on the session with the Notes and select Connect, the Notes panel never actually gets displayed. If I just left-click the session, the Notes are displayed. But when I right-click and get the popup menu, the Notes are not displayed. I tried Connect, Open Offline, Edit and none of them got confused.

Can you try this again on your computer and see if right-clicking and selecting Edit Session edits the wrong session or not?

I suppose it's possible there is a difference in how the Windows Events for the ListView component are handled between Windows 7 and Windows Vista and I no longer have a Vista test system (it died). So maybe somebody else can try this on both Vista and Windows 7 to see if there is a difference.

Clicking on Edit Session from the right click menu seems to edit the right session, but clicking open offline will open the wrong one just like connect will. When you right click on the session with the notes the box won't be displayed, but the wrong session that gets connected to will be the one under the mouse if you left click on the session with the notes after the notes box pops up and the sessions shift around. Does that make sense? This seems to be reproducible on my XP laptop too.

I need help from somebody else to reproduce this. I just tried it on my XP system here and it didn't fail either. I set the View mode to both List and Small Icons and neither failed with right-click and Open Offline or Connect.

Ok, one last attempt then I give up. I sent you an email containing the sessions and sessionkeys files that I can use to reproduce this consistently with.

1. Set view to arrange by title
2. Size your session window to match how mine is in the picture below.

3. Right click the L in Lusternia.
4. Select either connect or open offline from the right click menu.
(The right click menu needs to open over the sessions in the session window.)

The result should be the Akanbar session opening rather than the Lusternia session

Tested with Vista desktop and XP laptop.

This somewhat contradicts what was originally happening for me. Simply left clicking on the Lusternia session will put the RetroMUD session under my cursor when the notes/description box pops up. Either way CMUD's still opening the wrong session.

Yes!! I was able to reproduce it using your files. Although what's a bit weird is that using Open Offline on Lusternia actually causes it to open the "7 Degress of Freedom" session here, rather than Akanbar. But since it opens the wrong session, I should be able to figure it out now and get this fixed.

Thanks for your patience in tracking this down.
