Is there any way to increase the usability of search results. Sorting by date is a must for forum searching. Or am I missing something.

Which search feature are you using? If you do not go to the Site menu and then click on Search and then click on Search Forums, you are using the "broken" search feature (not really broken so much as uselessly invalidated by how Google scores the Zuggsoft.com website) and should switch.
