Docking a new window

For the life of me I can't get a window to dock next to the main session window. I can only get the darn window to be tabbed. How in the heck do you get it to dock next to the main session window? Below, up, left or right. None works.

Drag one window over the other, and release the pointer over one of the icons that appears, either the ones in the middle or the ones at the edges. Hovering over them will show where the window will be docked.

I think I figured out why it wasn't working. I had a window called status and a status window called status.. It was getting confused.
