zMUD Mapper Problem

Hello, perhaps some of you could help me with my problem if you would.

Yesterday I was working on adding and cleaning up my map to my favorite mud when I noticed one of the rooms was acting oddly. The exits weren't showing up, and in the property box there were two exit fields, but empty. Very odd. I tried a few things (like reconnecting exits) but it didn't change. So I tried to just delete the room and it responded with "Not a valid bookmark." and wouldn't delete. Not sure what else to do I removed the room by moving it to a zone I titled "Junk" and figured that would at least keep it out of my way for now.

Today, I open zMUD and am hit with "Corrupted layout file" I click Ok. The map begins to open, gets to the end and "Record is deleted." Then it hangs, failing to open properly. I don't panic (yet) as I have a backup from a few months ago and copy the .lay file from it (admittedly a bit smaller) and retry. Well the layout file fixed the corrupted layout file from popping up, but still, my map opens, ending with "Record is deleted" and hanging, preventing me from using it.

I'm an avid mapper (I enjoy it) and my map has come a long way since my last backup (which admittedly is my fault, I should have backed up often!). Is there anyway to salvage this or fix it so I don't have to revert and lose all the work?

Any help is appreciated and thank you for your time!

Perhaps try the MapConverter 1.3 utility.

I've never heard of this. How would I use it? Convert my map to what?

I'd just like to salvage the map if I could without having to redo the lost work. Would the MapConverter utility do that possibly (and how)? Also where can it be found, please?

You can get the converter from the CMud section of the Downloads menu. It was originally built to give the 3.xx CMud users the ability to use ZMapper on the 3.xx mapfiles until Zugg could update/replace Zmapper, but it's branched out into repair work to fix problems generated by earlier bugs/corruption.

It's a standalone application, so you would at least need to exit your ZMud session if not Zmud entirely to be able to work on the file. Just locate the file (I recommend making a shortcut for it so you don't have to keep looking for it every time you want to use it) and run it like you would run ZMud. There are two textboxes for source file and result file, and two dropdown boxes for the file format you want (.mdb for ZMud or CMud 2.37 format, .dbm for the CMud 3.xx beta mapper format). I think there's also a Repair option.

Being a "newer" program, it's always possible that it won't fix your specific issue so in that case you may want to let us know what's up and possibly even save a copy of the map for Zugg to look at if he asks for it. If the converter doesn't fix the issue, you may need to do the fix in MS Access or some other manager.

Ok, finally got some free time to attempt to fix this. Sadly mapconverter did not work. It said map repaired, then it says something about the wrong interface. Map isn't repaired.

So thoughts?
