zmud 7.21 windows and map properties |
I haven't been playing for a number of years now and thought to get back into the zmud craze :) Unfortunately, I've been pulling my hair out all day because my various windows (main and child) have been acting all wonky. Disappearing when docked, moving around when docked, and a new child window which I have no idea as to its origin - which I cannot seem to get rid of either. To compound the problem with the child window mystery - it captures the exits and in this particular environment (Ancient Anguish - Pueblo), I've had to thus far stipulate exits as the entire paragraph to get the mapper to work at all - I'm too afraid to use it in my other games where I have countleses hours of scripting and such. The big issue for me (and my bald spots) is that the mapping property window does not open up. I can't find it anywhere even though I think it does try to open. I'm also having major problems with the reload room description. I can't always get it to activate and even when it does, it just doesn't work i.e., it looks and doesn't load anything new.
The real kicker here is that zmud behaves the same way on my laptop ... which has not been touched since loading it on there. - other than today when I verified that the map properties weren't opening there either. At this point, my own conclusion is that I have somehow corrupted the darn thing. If any of my babblings make sense to you, please point the 'toopid stick my way and let me know what I can do to fix it! :D
Thank you in advance!
PS
None of this stuff was going on when I was using it before my "vacation".

1)use the Layout|Reset Layout menu option. This will force all open windows back into valid screenspace so you can drag them around and close them. Do so.
2)Once all the child windows and support windows like the Room Properties are dealt with and you are at a point where you feel like you can begin playing--DON'T! Save the layout first, and make sure the main window is selected when you do.
NOTE: since the Room Properties is a child window of the mapper window itself and therefore "core" to ZMud, there's an outside chance that the layout reset won't apply to it. In that case, I believe you can edit/delete the zmud.ini file to force ZMud to restore all system windows to their factory defaults. Keep in mind that deleting this file will also delete any Global Settings (variables, triggers, aliases, etc) you might have so be sure to copy those to a backup or else you will permanently lose them.
3)if all of that doesn't fix your window problems, you have a corrupted something. This might be a settings file, so in that case you need to send each .mud file through the Migration Guide. It is also possible that something has happened to your Session database, so you may need to either delete and recreate your session OR if even that doesn't work delete the entire chardb.mdb file and let ZMud recreate a factory-default version. |

Thank you very much Matt! I will work on this tomorrow and give feedback when I get a little breathing room.

Okay.
1. Didn't work for the properties, map or settings - settings windows were full size and un-resizable. Did work for the character and child windows.
2. Still saved the layout while double checking the the status of the main window. Closed zmud and re-opened. Still the same as above. Made the backup and tried editing the window sizes of the properties window without any luck. Deleted the zmud.ini and that worked, but it did NOT delete any global settings. I've been working on my main pc from this point so I haven't done anything with #3.
3. I am still looking for this Migration Guide.
Thank you for your time Matt.
Edit: Blah...finally found the Library link, thus the Migration Guide article. I seem to remember always having this difficulty...navigating to that Library. /head desk |
