[3.22] Cmud will not start

Have recently been experiencing problems getting CMud 3.22 to start. Sometimes takes 20 or so attempts and then starts. When I say it won't start, it won't even get to the splash screen. Have tried rebooting PC, uninstalling and reinstalling the application, and turning off security programs that might be interfering but to no avail. I don't know if there are any hanging processes in the background that aren't being killed. Also, the program is frequently crashing. I don't think it is anything to do with my session codes because these aren't loaded before the application starts. Running xp with 3MB RAM on a reasonably fast processor. Nothing has changed on my PC lately, just CMud not starting - and when it is running it tends to crash more quickly, usually when creating new triggers etc. For what its worth I've also tried exporting XML into a new session to see if that helps, but didn't make any difference.

Any advice would be appreciated as with this instability, it is getting quite unusable.

The splash screen is the first thing CMUD does. So if you are not getting the splash screen, then something else is wrong on your computer or some software is interfering with the CMUD copy protection. When you click CMUD to run it, the copy protection software decrypts the *.exe file on disk and loads it into memory. If anything interferes with that process, then CMUD won't run. Typically it is anti-spyware or network security software that can interfere, so make sure everything is updated (Windows updates, anti-virus, etc).

Having a virus of some kind will also interfere with CMUD loading, so definitely make sure you are running a good anti-virus software and that it is up to date. You didn't mention what version of Windows you are using (always tell us that...it's important) so I'm not sure what else to suggest.

But if you aren't seeing the splash screen then it doesn't have anything to do with your settings or scripts or anything like that.

It might also be a failing memory chip. I had that problem a few months ago with an MMO where everything else on my computer would work, but loading a certain MMO would cause weird flaky crashes. I burned a copy of MemTest86 to a CD and then booted the computer with the CD and ran the memory test over night and it found some problems. Replaced the RAM and that fixed the problem. RAM seems to be getting less reliable these days...don't know if they are pushing the limits too much or if it's just getting cheap quality control. But that's the second time in 2 years I've had memory issues on my gaming computer.
