Noob mapper help

Maybe this just doesn't do what I'm expecting, but is the mapper supposed to recognize what room you're when you type look, teleport, flee, or just move? Should I always have to set my current location when I log in and when the mapper gets in the wrong room, I have to reset the current location instead of just typing look? When I set up the autoconfiguration, it picks everything out just fine, including the prompt. And I have a database loaded with all the zones and all the rooms and all the maps, with all the correct room names, descriptions, and exits. I'm pretty sure I've looked through all the settings, but maybe I missed it. It mapper moves around just fine when I'm moving, but it doesn't take the room name or description into account, like for when I flee, it's pretty frequent that I flee around a zone trying to get somewhere, and it is in no particular direction.

If your location falls out of sync with the map you should click the find button (binoculars) on the map, so long as its a unique room it should correct for you.

For things like fleeing hopefully it tells you which way you fleed and you can make a trigger to use the #MOVE command accordingly.

You may also need to make some #NODIR triggers to tell the map when you did not successfully move and there the mapper que of that direction command.

The mapper does not inherently automate teleportation or fleeing. This is because these activities are not standard to all games, and even in games where such abilities appear they do not do so in a uniform fashion (in fact, many games actually have several different ways to teleport so it's not even uniform within the same game).

Regarding the look command, it's an extremely useful game command that's all but guaranteed to be used obscenely frequently. In most games, only the prompt is more frequent than the LOOK command. To avoid simple overuse of resources, the mapper was likely deliberately made to ignore normal use of the LOOK command. This means that only directional movement and the #LOOK/#FIND command will automatically update the mapper.

You should really post a new thread when you ask a different question.

The autoconfigure works for most muds. I don't know specifically for MateriaMagica, but that should be the first thing you try. Start your session. Open the mapper. In the Mapper window, click Config|Reconfigure. It will pop up a window which will take you through several basic steps. When you are done, the mapper should be configured. Try it. If it doesn't work, then ask again.
