can't keep an open socket/connection |
I'm a new CMUD user and I'm having a problem maintaining a connection after brief periods of inactivity (~30 seconds or so). The MUD I'm playing has an idle timeout of 2 hours, so it's not on that end. The disconnect isn't a result of my own inactivity either, if the MUD sends any text that keeps the connection alive. Until recently I was using Portal as a client and it sends data every heartbeat between the mud & the client so there is no connection inactivity. I'd rather use CMUD as with recent windows updates Portal has become unstable on my system.
I've tried to adjust settings within CMUD, even going so far as to contact technical support. They've told me its an issue with maintaining an open socket. When I googled that on the web the recommendations were to go to my network settings, open my wireless adapter and turn off power saving mode. I've done that, but still no luck. Was hoping you might have some further suggestions? |

#ALARM "stayAlive" -30 {%char(8)}
i think that will work
it sends the equivalent of a backspace to the mud i believe |

unfortunately the MUD i play on has a rule against triggers designed to keep you un-idle. I tested that one with an administrator and he says it is the exact kind of trigger that the rule was designed to prevent. He gave me temporary permission to use it while I look for a fix. Anyone know anything about wireless routers? I'm thinking the problem may be in the router.

Maybe try searching in your router's wifi section for a setting called Beacon Period. Write down the default value then try decreasing the number a little at a time till you get a stable connection. Hopefully this will fix your issues if you can find the setting.
On my MBR-1000 it is in the Advanced Tab>Wireles (WI-FI) section. |

If you are not using the 3.17 Beta version of CMUD, give that a try. In the Preferences screen on the Network/Connection tab there is an option called "Set KeepAlive for network socket" that you should make sure is enabled.
