Notifications on all Windows systems work-around |
CMud doesn't update the taskbar due to API changes in Windows 7.
However there is a work around: http://www.growlforwindows.com/gfw/
(Manual: http://www.growlforwindows.com/gfw/help/growlnotify.aspx)
Growl is a notifications system allowing for API or command line calls. It was designed for OSX but has been ported to Windows. It's a lot more polished than Snarl, the previous port.
It also comes with growlnotify.exe by default for command line based notification, e.g.:
Code: |
#launch "C:\$path\growlnotify.exe /t:"%1" /a:CMUD /n:General "~"%2~""" |
To set Growl up for CMud:
Code: |
C:\$path\growlnotify.exe /a:CMUD /r:"Notificationtypename here","Notificationtypename here","Notificationtypename here"
|
This will register CMUD with Growl and create N notification types which can be independantly configured. |

Moving this to the CMUD forum and making it a Sticky. Since Windows 7 is pretty popular right now, I didn't want this workaround to get lost in the forums. Thanks for posting the solution!

Can you explain a little more in practical terms what this would do?

When CMUD is out of focus in Windows 7 there's no way to see if there's been any activity without going and looking.
You can set up a trigger and play a sound but that gets annoying fast, and worse, users tune it out.
Growl is a pop up system that can pop up a variety of user installed or default pop-ups (There doesn't seem to be a way to call Widows 7's in-built pop up system from the command line).
Using it you can set a series of triggers, for pages, tells, events, etc. that will pop up and let you know something's happening.
You can set Growl to make pop-ups s"sticky" if you're idle for more than N seconds, so you won't miss a notification. You can also add sounds to the notifications, and use multiple types and on osme, even priority codes. |
