unique exits in automapper

ok, i've been digging through the help files and stuff, i cant ever seem to find what im looking for in it

im tryin to use the automapper, but when i come up to a room that has exits that look like

There are four obvious exits: north, east, museum, and south.

i cant get it to map out for the museum exit, it doesnt have to be automatic, i dont mind doing it by hand, but i want it to be able to track me after i get it set up, so i added a room and exit manually and tried to name it museum but when i actually move using the command museum it doesnt move me on the map

2.37 or 3.08? It makes a slight difference if the following doesn't help you:

The easiest way to do this is, from the room with the museum exit, type >museum on the command line. This will create a link between the two rooms that uses the "other" direction and the word "museum" as the exit word. While you're in the origin room, typing "museum" should update you on the mapper with this setup.

What you can also do is type >museum>e on the command line. This'll create an exit that leaves the first room to the east and enters the second room from the west, but that uses "museum" rather than "east" to do so. Pressing 6 on the numpad should move you "museum" rather than east with this setup.

Play with both these options, and have a look at the different kinds of link that they create - both visually on the mapper and in the room's properties - and you'll be able to choose which works best for you.

More info on this problem is here.

ok so i tried one of the methods, the room im trying to create is entered with the command 'museum' so i have the automapper active and mapping all the normal rooms, when i get to the room with museum in it i type '>museum' it moves me through the museum exit on the mud but the mapper doesnt create a new room, when i enter a new direction it maps a room, example: i hit '>museum' and the automapper shows nothing, but i move in the mud, then i hit 'north' and i move north in the mud into a room that has only a south exit, and on the automapper it creates a new room with an exit south, i can move south into the original museum entrance and it maps it like its supposed to, but its not connected in any way to the entrance from the outside, what am i doing wrong?

Hm. You haven't said whether this is 2.37 or 3.xx. My first guess is that it wasn't detecting the room description the first time, but figuring out why will require knowing which version of Cmud this is.
