Looking for Usability Testers!

I plan to release a private version of CMUD 3.15 this Friday night. I am looking for some people willing to do some usability testing of a new Script Wizard this weekend.

The new Script Wizard allows novice users to easily create scripts for Aliases, Triggers, Macros, etc, by selecting common tasks and adding them as "steps" to their script. So I need people who can look at this from a "new user perspective" but who are still willing to put up with new bugs and problems.

CMUD (and zMUD) have long been criticized for being "too complicated" for novice users. Recent feedback from several customers have confirmed that part of the problem is the scripting system...some people don't know where to start when given the big blank scripting window in the Settings Editor. I tried creating a "Trigger Wizard" in the past, but that was only mildly useful. This new Script Wizard works with all settings, not just triggers, and will be expanded to include a Trigger Pattern wizard in the near future.

If you have time to do some testing and provide feedback this weekend, please send me your email address to zugg@zuggsoft.com and tell me that you want to participate in the usability study.

Will we be able to install it side-by-side with existing versions? I've had some interesting results attempting to run 2.37 and 3.14a together...

It will work just like installing a new Beta version. So 3.15 will install over your existing 3.14a version. To run "side-by-side" you normally need to install each version in it's own directory. However, there will still be problems running the 2.37 version after running any 3.x beta version because both versions will share the same session files and the 2.37 version cannot read the color style names used in 3.14 (so you get an error when running 2.37 about "limegreen" not being a valid color, which you just have to ignore).

Email sent!

Quick question, are you planning on updating the version history? if not, would you happen to have quick/easy list of changes/bug fixes?

Wyrm: Not sure what you are asking. The 3.15 version doesn't have any additional bug fixes at this time. It just has the new Script Wizard. Bug fixes will be added before the next open beta release.

Ahhhh, I was assuming this was also going to most of the bug fixes of the next beta version, not just the script wizard.

Nope, the Script Wizard has been keeping me pretty busy. But I still expect a March beta version with more bug fixes later in the month.
