Help cant get to log in

I am a complete newbie when it comes to this software. I installed Cmud and read the log in instructions. I can connect to the mud I play however, the first thing I must do to actually log on is chose to (P)lay or (C)reate a character. When I enter P to play all I get is the symbol * and can not figure out the problem. Help please

Presumably it's something simple you're doing wrong. What's the address of the MUD, so we can try ourselves?

Its Dark and Shattered Lands. Its in the list. dsl-mud.org : 4000
I also notice if I have Cmud running when I type anything on forums or lists or even my word processing programs my scroll key is lit up and I am typing all in symbols.
When logging in of DSL the (c) to create character works fine but not the (p) |

CMUD enables NumLock (not Scroll Lock, which is something else) when it starts because it's used for mapping on full keyboards. You can turn that off in the preferences - it's on the first page, "Activate NumLock".
I'm looking into your original problem now :)
EDIT: Not seeing it with a brand new session. Here's exactly what I did:
1) Open CMUD
2) At the bottom, click "All MUDs (Mud Connector List)"
3) Find DSL on the list
4) Double-click it
5) Once the Session screen shows again, double-click the new DSL icon
6) Now connected. Enter y for colour, press enter, then enter p for play.
Here's the entire session, in case you spot something unusual:

I got it. It was because the num lock default was set to on. It appears to be fine now that I turned it off. Thanks
