That's the beauty of it! You can have your RP sponge but still eat your combat-scripting battenburg :)

This thread makes me wonder what it takes to get on CMUD's default MUDs list.

Well, those aren't prices, they're bids. There're a limited number of them and whoever wants them the most gets them *shrug*

Sure but let's be realistic here. Most hobbyist MUD administrators won't have that kind of money to "throw away" on an advertisement icon. It is not about who wants the icon the most. It is about who can afford it. From the page itself:
Quote: |
Thus, these icon slots tend to be dominated by large MUDs, or MUDs that charge money. However, from the point of view of attracting new players to well-established MUDs, this is actually desireable. While there are always exceptions, in general the MUDs that can afford a zMUD/CMUD icon are good places for new players to start. Reference. |
Either the MUD is run by a rich person, or the MUD has an income. To Diku based MUDs and perhaps also LPMuds it becomes impossible to enter the list if you aren't wealthy. I believe the DIKU license states that you may not run the MUD for profit, and LPMud has some similar non commercial rule that forbid profit. It was quite some time since I read the DIKU license though and I have never read the LPMud one but only read in forums about it. So I could definitely be wrong about.
Edit: To not bring the thread more off topic let's continue discussion about MUD icons in private messages, or in a new thread :-). |
