[2.34] Can't connect

After downloading 2.34, I found that I could not connect to any mud. I am running windows XP. I can connect fine with zmud.

Is this the first time you've downloaded and installed CMUD? Do you have a firewall program that needs to be configured to allow CMUD to connect to the internet?

No, I updated from 2.33. My firewall detected it and auto configured for it. After installing 2.34 I could no longer connect

Double check your firewall settings especially if zMUD connects fine but CMUD doesn't. It more than likely is the culprit, failing that the only thing I can suggest is doing a complete uninstall: Backup your settings files which are hopefully in My Documents\Games\CMUD if not they are in \Program Files\CMUD. Put this backup in a folder elsewhere to either of the mentioned folders. Remove all left over files/folders in C:\Program Files\CMUD then all files/folders in My Documents\Games\CMUD do make sure your backup of your settings is safe first. Now do a download and install of v2.34 and see if you can make a simple connection to a random mud. If this works copy your setting backup over the new files that will have been created and try your usual mud, if it then fails there must be something wrong with either your default package or your mud package at which point you can create a new session and copy over settings via xml.

Nothing changed in the network code between v2.33 and v2.34, so it must be some sort of local firewall issue. Nobody else has reported any problems connecting with 2.34. My guess is that you need to re-add CMUD to your Windows firewall...maybe Windows can tell that the CMUD.EXE file changed and dropped it from the firewall list or something?

That would be odd. I'm using Norton for my firewall, and for some reason any time I try to open it the stupid program hangs. I'll probably have to reboot. Evil or Very Mad
