Basic question:output |
I am extremely new to cmud and all muds in general. I used zmud for a bit, now I have Cmud. I don't want the output screen to roll/slide as it comes in. Everytime I enter a room, I just want it to display the room all at once instead of the lines cascading up the screen. Can anyone help me (please be very basic when explaining-like to a child...) Also, are there any settings I can use to speed up my games just a bit? I don't have the fastest internet connection.(dial-up)
Thanks |

The lines scroll as fast as CMUD receives them. If it's scrolling slowly, that's because the server is sending them slowly, which is probably because you're on dial-up. There's not a lot that can be done because you're essentially asking for CMUD to scroll even slower, to wait until it has a certain amount of text before printing it. There's no easy way for CMUD to decide what's the end of a room description, for example, so it just prints it all to the screen as fast as it can.
I assume that the problem you're talking about is that when you enter north or something to move into a new room, there's a noticeable pause between each line of the room description being printed to the screen. If that's not your problem, please give more info. |

I understand what you are saying, but with zmud it didn't do that, and I think I may have checked an option randomly with zmud, because I seem to remember it doing that in the beginning also. The rooms move pretty quick as they did before, it's just that with zmud each room was displayed as a whole, while now they move at the same speed but with a 'smooth flow' like display, which is actually dizzying to me-I don't know how else to explain this, if nothing can be done or this didn't clarify my problem, just disregard and I'll take it in stride with dial-up.
I seem to remember checking a box in zmud for parsing, buffering or paging or something like that which was recommended for slower connections-and this was what stopped the cascading lines with zmud... |

Check your "Refresh Amount" preference. The default in both zMUD and CMUD is 5 lines. That's the buffering that you are thinking about. Maybe that got set wrong in your CMUD system somehow.
Or, maybe you have some trigger or script that is running on each line and slowing down CMUD. You can turn on the Script Debugger window in CMUD to see what is running and how long it takes when each line is received from the MUD. |
