ugh... what happened to old windowing behaviour?

I stopped mudding for a few months and I came back and upgraded and yay.. new version.. im not sure what my old version was but now when i open multiple windows, they all a) use the .mud name for the window..
b) the newest one opens up as a tiny window in the middle of the screen (at the back)
c) every time i change the login name on one session it changes the name on all the other sessions...

i tend to have 2-3 open windows at a time. what happened to autolayout -tabbed/vertical/horizontal?
and what happened to the ability to use the same .mud file for different sessions? the old zmud structure used primary and secondary .mud files i still havent figured out the how the package stuff works yet i guess.

well... now we use 'packages'. which handle all your settings for each child window in that package, which would be the name of the connection (usually). one thing that i miss is the "roll-up" for each child window. was nice to roll up a single window, to get to an item behind there, or to watch a movie, sized just right to hide in that rolled up window, and keep the mud on to of the video, and roll it down as needed... *sigh* there is a learn curve with cmud from zmud, thats for sure, as i'm still working on it myself, but all in all, i'm liking it! =D hth's!

You can still "rollup" a window by clicking on the system menu in the upper-left corner of a window. There just isn't an icon on the window caption bar because Windows doesn't have that feature and adding my own icon like I did in zMUD interferes with the Windows theme system and various 3rd-party programs like Window Blinds. But the rollup function is there there...just not quite as easy to access.

Back to the original post: In zMUD, the name of the window was the same as the *.mud filename. In CMUD this is changed so that the window name can be anything you want. It defaults to the same as the Title of your session. But you can use the #NAME command to rename the window, or just go into the Settings Editor, click on the Window object at the top of the tree view on the left, and then edit the window name to anything your want.

When you open a new child window, just drag it and dock it however you want to the main window or to any other floating window. There isn't any "autolayout" option in CMUD because CMUD supports a much more flexible window layout system and so simple "tabbed/horizontal/vertical" layouts don't really make much sense anymore. Just dock the windows how you want them and CMUD will remember your layout.

In CMUD, the new *.PKG file replaces the old *.MUD file. One big difference is that the *.PKG file in CMUD can contain multiple windows with their own settings, whereas in zMUD, each window had to have it's own *.MUD file. zMUD allows you to have a single "inherited" *.MUD file (the secondary file), whereas CMUD allows you to load as many inherited *.PKG packages as you want. For example, you will see stuff like the EnglishKeypad and EnglishDirections packages are now separated out so that it's easier to override them or remove them on non-Enlglish MUDs.

Yes, it takes a while to get used to the new features, but in general, CMUD is more flexible than zMUD was.
